On May 30, 2009 my Bro Jim was on his motor cycle and unfortunately crashed and broke 4 vertebrae in his neck and 2 in his fused low back

He said it was the most pain he'd ever went through in his life.   He had to be air lifted to the hospital and insurance didn't cover that

and times are hard as you know.  If you're able to contribute the 'Emmett Fix It Fund' that would be greatly appreciated.

Hospital bills are to total $250,000  and Jim figures he'll owe $50,000.

During our last conversation he was very thankful for all that have contributed with well wishes and financially too!

Wooooooooooooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

It's off!!

The BAD news is tha mt back/spine has a 1/2 inch gap that's NOT filling in like they had hoped. They need to consult with the neuro surgeon who worked on my spine & then they will have a better idea of when i can return to normal "light" activities. It sounds like it could be many more months because of that gap in the spine....Bummer!

Oh well.......at least THE HALO's OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

September 14, 2009 they tightened UP the HALO and it's making my head & neck hurt for the fisrt few days after the adjustment, just like last time....You BETTER take care of yourself & git that Iron & Oxygen back up where it belongs!!!!

Well after sitting at the clinic for almost 4 & 1/2 hours they sent me home with a couple of pictures of my lower back X-rays & a HALO that's on even tighter than it was this morning!

Aparently my neck bones are only about 40-60% healed & the neuro doctor is convinced that if he takes the halo off i'm going to get immeadatly careless & fall down and break the neck bones ALL over again OR break even more of them...Sooooo he want's to wait ANOTHER month and decide then. ALSO because of ALL the X-rays & CT scans he wants me to keep wearing the T.S.O. brace for another 2-3 months AT LEAST. I asked about when i could possably go back to work & was told anywhere from another 3 to 6 months yet.

This news SUCKS, I'm depressed, I'm broke, I miss my friends, I miss my coworkers, I miss going fishing, I miss just being able to go visiting!!!

Here's the X-ray pictures of my Titianimum bits & where they are located.

September 2, 2009 I've been getting stronger everyday, I can walk about 15 feet without the walker now & hopefully when I go to the Neuro Surgeon appointment on the 14th of this month i will git this HALO taken off. On the down side I've been having some painfull flare-ups of hip pain & some head & neck pain issues that are pretty depressing. I'm still happy with my progress & I'm hoping to get back to work in the next few months. The bill collectors have been calling about some of the MANY doctor bills & all i can tell them is I'll send them a few bucks & make payments when I return to work.

Make sure you let everyone know that the donations they have made are MUCH appreciated!

Well I went to the Nerosurgen(?) clinic yesterday, July 27. It was my 1st check-up since they let me out of the REHAB hospital.

They took 11 X-rays of my neck & lower spine. They had me open my mouth as far as i could so they could X-ray through my mouth to see the bones in my neck.......What a weird feeling!!

I didn't actually git ta' see a Dr. they had me checked over by the PA at the clinic.

I finally got to see the X-rays of my neck & lowerback. What she was doing was comparing the X-rays from June with the X-rays they took yesterday to see if anything has moved or cracked OR bent.

Looking at ALL these titanium screws is pretty scary, they are about 3" long and look kinda like wood screws!!! I could also see the bar he screwed in there, it's bent to match the shape of my spines lower curve.

I thought that was pretty cool myself.

SO, everything looks just like it did when i left the hospital, she retorqued the screws pushing on my noggin to keep the HALO tight & in place, then she adjusted the vest part of the HALO because it had moved up some.

It sounds like they want to do a CT scan in 6 weeks & if the healing has progressed enuf it will be OFF with the HALO and ON with the neckbrace....Woooooo Hoooooooo!!

Now for the Icky news........Since my lowerspine break was SO big & because of my Arthritis fusing all the lower bones,

i will be wearing this TSO/chest brace for at least another 4 months & she is going to order a bone growth stimulator to wear & hopefully accelerate the healing/fusing of my spine.
